"Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child's natural medium of self-expression. It is an opportunity which is given to the child to 'play out' his feelings and problems just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual 'talks out' his difficulties."    Virginia Axline

I've worked with many children over the years and see each child as a unique individual whom I trust to lead me. I trust a child is able to show me through their actions, and or words, what they need.

Children are often referred to me because they are exhibiting behaviour that their parents don't know how to deal with. I help parents understand what lies beneath the behaviour and how to live without struggle. As the play therapy unfolds, parents often report that their child is more able to "think before they act" and able to recover faster when they do become upset.

In this process, parents learn why their child is acting out and begin to see their child in a new way, often with more compassion and empathy. As a result, children reciprocate, showing their own capacity for compassion and empathy and even cooperation!

Play in therapy facilitates communication otherwise not possible or limited by "talk therapy methods" and heals wounds deeper than the eye can see.
